Reconstructed Prism
"Reconstructed Prism" was a project completed at the Espositivo Residency in Malasana, a small arts neighborhood in Madrid, Spain. The large remnant and four relief canvas sculptures were constructed from a single 8'x10' inked and deconstructed work made in Brooklyn. Using objects and furniture from various street markets to act as formworks, I negotiated a series of figurative sculptures from cutouts of the initial transported piece. The Espositivo Gallery presented this series in November of 2016.
A Comment in the Margins
"A Comment in the Margins" is a series of works that span canvas sculptures to photography. Collaborating with twin performance artists Alex and Becky Chipkin, I created two textile works with the intention that they would cut, drape, and sculpt each of the works onto the other. Using a medium format camera, I was able to capture twelve continuous shots on one roll of film for each angle spanning from one o'clock to twelve as they pivoted at each intersection. In this project and the previous, the approach has been to contradict the concept of the canvas a tabula rasa by loading gesture and medium into its medium, from where it maleability leads to a series of unexplored interpolations.
